Background

The blood lactate level is correlated to the severity of a patient’s illness when dealing with most acute diagnoses. The diagnostic test is often used in the hospital, but remains a rarity in the prehospital environment.

Purpose

We aim to measure patients’ blood lactate levels on scene of their emergencies. Hereby, we suggest using a diagnostic tool in the prehospital setting with a possibility to detect severe illness at a very early point. This offers the opportunity to focus the acute treatment even before the patient arrives at hospital.

Metode

This study will compare the outcomes of patients treated with and without the possibility to measure prehospital blood lactate levels. We expect to find a reduction in mortality and morbidity in the group of patients who got their blood lactate levels measured.

Collaboration

The study is a collaboration between scientists from The Region of Southern Denmark and The Region of Northern Jutland and is carried out with close involvement from the prehospital personnel in The Region of Southern Denmark.
