How the emergency medical helicopters are used is generally based on the Danish Index for Emergency Care combined with time-related factors. The specific triage and dispatch guidelines are provided in the Dispatch Protocol.

Joint principles

The healthcare and technical dispatch of the four emergency medical helicopter emergency response units is handled by the regional Emergency Medical Dispatch Centres based on joint principles.

The four emergency medical helicopters form part of one overall cross-regional emergency response service and appear as a joint resource in all regional Emergency Medical Dispatch Centres’ electronic dispatch systems.

Cross-regional emergency response service

The helicopters work across regional boundaries and are non-stationary. All the emergency medical helicopters can thus be dispatched to all parts of Denmark if required.
