Purpose

This trial aims to stop bleeding after removal of tonsils in children and adults.

Background

Approximately 7000 patients have their tonsils removed each year in Denmark and 95% of these patients are released from the hospital on the same day. There is a risk of bleeding in the first ten days after surgery and the incidence is 5%. Bleeding in the airway can be life threatening and management is urgent with limited options for rapid response in the prehospital setting. With this project, we will use prehospital intervention with medicine to minimize surgical procedures or operation, which can be dangerous and uncomfortable, especially for children.

Cooperation

This multicenter trial will be performed in collaboration with all departments of Otorhinolaryngology and corresponding emergency medical service including relevant departments of Anaesthesiology. The project will originate from Zealand University Hospital.
