Background

Stroke is a leading cause of death and disability in Denmark and globally, and with an aging population, the number of strokes is expected to increase. This acute disease requires a time-critical response, and rapid transport and treatment are crucial to ensure the best outcome for patients.

Purpose

The project aims to improve understanding of how, among other things, the organization of the healthcare system can optimize treatment results for stroke patients. We will examine prehospital characteristics, geographic location, and the prehospital timeline of patients with stroke, focusing on prehospital data as prognostic indicators for stroke subtype and clinical outcomes.

Method

We will analyze data from the Danish Stroke Register and the Prehospital Patient Care Record to identify factors that can help describe treatment needs and survival.

Collaboration

The project is being conducted as a PhD project in collaboration between the the Danish Air Ambulance, the Department of Clinical Epidemiology at Aarhus University, and the Department of Neurology at Aarhus University Hospital.
